About

Welcome to Homeschool Java! I’m glad you’re here!! My name is Erin, and I’m a homeschooling mom of two little girls (ages 6 and 4). My husband, Phil, and I celebrated our 10th anniversary this summer.

I never thought I would homeschool my kids. I just didn’t think I could pull it off. So often God sees more in us than we see in ourselves. By the time our oldest was ready for K4, we knew it was the way we were supposed to go. We are now in our third year of homeschool, with M in 1st grade and E in kindergarten.

If you were with me in person, I would love to sit down with a cozy cup of coffee and share our homeschooling journey. My hope for Homeschool Java is that it will be a place where I can have an ongoing conversation with you as I share our ups and downs and lessons learned. I’m certainly no expert. Every day brings new challenges and perspectives, and I’m constantly learning and growing through the experience. I hope that what I share here brings you encouragement and maybe even some help in your homeschooling journey, whether you’re a seasoned homeschooler or wondering if homeschool is the right choice for you!

If you’re new to homeschooling or trying to decide whether to homeschool or not, please feel free to contact me! I’d love to help and encourage you any way that I can.

This year, I’m a member of The Old Schoolhouse Homeschool Crew, so you will find those homeschool product and curriculum reviews here as well!

God has amazing ways of surprising us, and blogging has been one of those surprises for me. I started writing at my first blog, Closing Time rather reluctantly, after reading other mom’s blogs for about two years. I didn’t know where it would take me, and I didn’t even know I was “supposed” to have a niche! The journey has taken me down unexpected paths, introducing me to some incredible new friends, and even leading me to launch my own blog design business, Insight Blog Design.

More About Me

I’m 33 years old, currently living in a small town in Mississippi, and married to my best friend (who happens to be from Australia). Phil and I met while we were both single and missionaries overseas. We were close friends for two years, got engaged, and then went on our first date. Kind of unusual and funny, I know!
I prefer the city over the country, love cultures and ethnic foods, long for four distinct seasons, and could spend the day browsing stock photographs and drinking good, strong coffee. At our house the laundry mountain usually threatens to overwhelm us all.
According to personality tests, I’m exactly halfway between being an introvert and an extrovert. I crave people and solitude all at once. I’m never the life of the party, but I’m a good listener. I’m perfectly capable of talking a lot, too. It just depends on the moment…
