City Creek Press was founded in 1992 by Judy Liautaud, who developed a fun way to learn math tables while she was operating the Sylvan Learning Center in Bountiful, Utah. The company has grown over the years and now offers 20 original products to help make learning fun.
We had the opportunity to review their Times Alive Software. It is is based on the book Times Tables the Fun Way, which has sold more than 500,000 copies in schools in the United States. Times Alives uses stories and songs to attach meaning to the numbers and enable students to retain and recall multiplication facts.
Starting with a test of multiplication facts, the program then moves quickly to animated stories and songs. Multiplication facts for numbers 0-9 are covered. The student plays a guessing game following each lesson to reinforce what the story or song has just taught. Each student’s progress is tracked, showing which lessons have been completed as well as the results of their progress report tests.
If your child is struggling to learn their multiplication facts, this could be a good way to help them learn. It is primarily geared for elementary age students, those who are usually learning their multiplication tables.
City Creek Press has made it easy for you to see what Times Alive has to offer for yourself! Just click here to watch video clips from the CD-ROM and get more information. Your child can also take a practice test of multiplication facts here (this test is taken from the Times Alive CD-ROM).
The Times Alive Multiplication Software is available in the City Creek Press webstore for both PC and Mac. As a Mac user, I always appreciate it when a company has compatible software! You can purchase a download version for $44.95 or order a CD-ROM for $48.95. Additional Times Alive materials, such as student workbooks, teacher manuals, clue cards, books, song CDs, and downloadable worksheets are also available.
City Creek Press has other products as well, including their Addition Facts the Fun Way series. While that series does not include a software option, it does have a book, student workbook, addition clue cards, subtraction cards, posters, and an audio book CD-ROM.
Visit the City Creek Press Website to learn more about all they have to offer!
