Since we received the Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary for Kids from Lifeway Christian Stores to review for the TOS Homeschool Crew, M (my 7 year old) has spend hours perusing its pages. She started on the very first page,  titled “For Parents and Teachers” and is intent on working her way through to the end. I love watching her carefully reading each detail. On several occasions, as we read a other books, M has recalled a fact she learned from the Bible dictionary. With great excitement, she runs to get the book and find the particular page to share it with us. There is no doubt that we give it two thumbs up!

The Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary for Kids is for children ages 5-10, and it is a great reference for families, homeschools, churches, and schools. This hardback book covers 750 Bible terms in its more than 200 pages. The pages feature beautiful photos and illustrations. Nice, bold lines divide each term from the next, making it easy for children to read each definition without getting the words mixed up. Some of its features include:

Reconstructions – help give children an idea of what towns and buildings may have looked like in Bible days

Illustrated Charts – show Bible animals, transportation, insects, plants, and others

Charts – teach the names of God, plagues, the apostles, and more

Entries with King James Version words – help children learn the Bible words that aren’t common in English today

Pronunciation Guides – help with hard-to-say words

Photographs – show children the real places where some Biblical events took place

Definitions – of people, places, and Bible concepts

If you would like to see the inside of the book for yourself, click here and then click on “download PDF sampler.” You can order the Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary for Kids from Lifeway for $14.99.

I highly recommend it!
